David T. Zava, PhD President and Owner
Dr. Zava received his doctorate in Biochemistry from the University of Tennessee, Memphis in 1974. As founder of ZRT (1998), he has been instrumental in developing research projects with physicians and academic groups to understand the role of steroid hormones in health and disease for the past decade. He is also the Clinical Laboratory Director and participates in monitoring Quality Control/ Quality Assurance programs for hormone testing at ZRT. Dr. Zava continues to educate the public and healthcare professionals through his published writings on saliva hormone testing, hormone imbalance and its links to health and disease.
Dr. Zava served as Scientific/Laboratory Director for Aeron Biotechnology/Aeron Lifecycles for almost ten years where he helped develop commercialized immunohistochemical methods for testing breast cancer specimens and steroid hormone testing in saliva. In addition to his many publications, he co-authored a landmark book, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer: How Hormone Balance Can Help Save Your Life. He served as a Chief of the Steroid Receptor section at John Muir Cancer and Aging Research Institute and directed studies on hormonal regulation of breast cancer.
Dr. Zava enjoys riding horses on his farm, reading, lecturing, and traveling.
 Jim Paoletti, RPh, FAARFM Director of Provider Education Services
Jim Paoletti, R.Ph, FAARM is Director of Provider Education for ZRT Laboratory, Beaverton, Oregon. Jim has over 25 years experience with bio-identical hormone therapies both in clinical practice in retail pharmacy, as a pharmacy consultant, educator, and educational program developer. Jim was instrumental in developing a compounding laboratory at the Medicine Shoppe, Beavercreek, Ohio. As the Vice President/Director of Continuing Education for Professional Compounding Centers of America, Inc. (PCCA), Jim developed and implemented Continuing Education programs for doctors, nurses, and pharmacists. He also consulted with compounding pharmacists located throughout the United States, in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, helping them to solve patients’ unique medication problems.
Jim has lectured extensively and internationally on all aspects of BHRT, including dosage forms and guidelines, testing and monitoring effectiveness, lifestyle and nutritional influences on BHRT outcomes, adrenal and thyroid hormones, and patient consultation. Jim has published articles on different aspects of BHRT in International Journal of Pharmaceutical Compounding and in American Druggist, and served as review editor for the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists’ publication, Contemporary Compounder.
Jim obtained his Bachelor’s of Science degree in pharmacy from Ohio State University in 1976. He is a graduate and faculty of the Fellowship of Anti-aging and Functional Medicine.
Jim enjoys studying plants and animals from various habitats; learning how medications are developed from natural sources; as well as spending time outdoors fishing, bicycling, and following various sports teams — especially the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Sanjay Kapur, PhD Scientific Director
As Scientific Director at ZRT, Dr. Kapur is instrumental in establishing and directing various research projects for development of clinical laboratory tests. He also initiates scientific collaborations with national and international investigators interested in relevant areas of research.
Dr. Kapur received his Doctorate in Life Sciences from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India in 1993 and his second Masters degree in Business Administration from Baker College in Flint, Michigan in 2005. He has extensive experience in biomedical research and has served in several lead positions directing studies involving development of novel assays and technologies in the areas of cytotoxicity and drug metabolism. He served as Research Scientist at CHUL Research Center, Quebec, Canada, and was involved in diabetes and obesity research. He has made significant contributions in developing several QSAR’s while serving as Senior Research Scientist at Pomona College, Claremont, California where he led all research activities of the toxicology group. He has published several articles in the field of drug metabolism and signal transduction in peer reviewed national and international journals. He has strong interests in development of new testing methodologies and innovative laboratory procedures and conducts research into new applications of clinical laboratory testing at ZRT.

Mark Newman, MS Vice President of Laboratory Operations
As the Vice President of Laboratory Operations, Mark’s primary objective is to ensure that ZRT results are as accurate and precise as possible and that the analysis is optimally efficient to ensure quality results in a timely fashion.
Mark has extensive experience in developing laboratory tests using various techniques including liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and immunoassays (ELISA). He has served as a senior scientist in various clinical laboratory settings while overseeing the complete development of a number of laboratory tests of varying complexities. Mark received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemistry (Willamette University, Salem, OR) and his Master’s of Science degree in Forensic Chemistry (University of New Haven, West Haven, CT).
Mark has various interests including basketball, outdoor sports, hiking, real estate, lecturing, and indulging his appetite with Thai food.
Alison McAllister, ND Clinical Consultants Manager
Dr. Alison McAllister supervises the efforts of the Clinical Consultants team at ZRT Laboratory. This specialized team of physicians reviews all laboratory test results, stays current with scientific information concerning hormonal balance and health, and offers a uniquely supportive service to all providers using ZRT Laboratory testing services. Under Dr. McAllister’s direction, the team is collaborating in research and education within the field of hormone testing, bio-identical hormone replacement choices, and functional endocrinology. Dr. McAllister is passionate about medical education and enjoys teaching both colleagues and patients. In addition to her work at ZRT Laboratory, Dr. McAllister supervises students at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon, and also works in her own private practice. Her focus of interests includes endocrinology (particularly thyroid and hormone balance), naturopathic oncology, and pediatric health. She graduated from Smith College in Northampton, MA, and later received her naturopathic medical doctorate in 1999 at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. In addition to her doctorate, Dr. McAllister did advanced coursework in naturopathic midwifery delivering babies at home. After graduation, she became the first resident in integrated cancer care at Cancer Treatment Centers and Southwestern Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On a nice summer day, Dr. McAllister can be found digging in her garden, which she is renovating with the help of her dog, Tucker.
